Introduction:
Thanksgiving is the time of year that is not only meant to feast on some of our favorite meals, but also to spend time with the people we love the most. Spending time with your loved ones and being able to create valuable memories together is the most important part of the holidays. In this short article, I am going to talk about the importance of quality time and how it can positively impact the overall health of your wellbeing and your loved ones.

What is quality time?
Quality time is the time spent with someone or a group of people where you give all of your undivided attention to them. An example of quality time is when you get home from work and instead of going to the couch to watch a television show or getting on your phone, you go find your spouse/ partner and you spend time connecting with them by talking, maintaining eye contact, and constructing positive conversation. Now a days, with all of the world’s distractions we have become susceptible to things like social media, video games, and television shows.
Living in a world of distractions
It is common today to go to a restaurant where you see a family sitting together and everyone is on their phone not interacting with each other. This weakens the social interaction between the family, slowly but surely destroying the ability to spend quality time together.
Create an environment for the holidays
As we approach Thanksgiving Day, there’s a perfect opportunity to establish an atmosphere for you and your family to be able to spend quality time with each other. Some ways that you can create this atmosphere are:
- Have games prepared
o By having games prepared it gets all of you involved and keeps people present in the moment.
(Some great family games you can play for the holidays are: 15 thanksgiving games )
- Have a phone tray
o Our phones are our biggest distractions, so if we can limit the use of them we can eliminate becoming distracted. So having a place where everyone can put their phones will help to keep everyone present.
- Create conversation topics
o Having some different conversation topics is a great way to keep the energy high while spending time with your loved one or loved ones. It can be as simple as googling some different conversation topics or even just thinking about what someone likes and creating a conversation around that. You never know where one conversation can take you.
The overall message
Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful and no matter what it’s the time we should value not only ourselves but our families as well. So I encourage you to be present and thankful for the ones around you. Enjoy delicious food and play some fun games that bring you all together. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!!
